Texas RN/APN PAC is the officially-sponsored political action committee (PAC) of TNA.  It is also the officially-sponsored PAC of the Texas Association of Nurse Anesthetists (TANA), Texas Nurse Practitioners (TNP) and the Coalition for Nurses in Advanced Practice (CNAP).  

Acting through an advisory committee of representatives of the sponsoring organizations, RN/APN PAC identifies candidates deserving of nurses' endorsement and financial support in races for the Texas Senate and Texas House of Representatives and selected statewide races including the governor and lieutenant governor races. 

Effective legislative advocacy must be accompanied by effective political advocacy to help elect good legislators - legislators who support quality health care for Texans and who recognize Registered Nurses do make a quality-of-care difference.  

Relying on incumbent voting records and candidate interviews by local nurses, the PAC advisory committee identifies candidates deserving of nurses' support.  It supports these candidates through campaign contributions and by organizing local nurses to volunteer for campaign work.   An RN/APN PAC endorsement is not an attempt to tell nurses how to vote, but rather to identify candidates RN/APN PAC believes from a nursing perspective are the best candidates. Hopefully, this will be one of the factors nurses consider when deciding to vote for a particular candidate.

Like legislative advocacy, effective political advocacy requires a commitment of resources.   All contributions to endorsed candidates come from funds contributed to RN/APN PAC by individual members of the sponsoring organizations.  Without these member contributions, RN/APN will not have the resources to support deserving candidates.
