Workplace and Environment

Nursing care occurs within an environment, and the structure and processes of that environment have a great influence on nursing practice. The structure and organization of the physical environment, the availability and preparation of staff, and the institutional culture will impact nursing practice and patient outcomes. TNA closely monitors the literature to identify best workplace practices that have a positive impact on nurses and patient care. TNA then works with nurses and others to make these best practices a reality for Texas nurses: for example, new staffing rules for hospital licensure, collaboration with schools of nursing to increase enrollments, collaboration with the Texas Board of Nursing on establishing “cultures of safety,” and many more.
