For Flu Preparedness, TNA Advises…

• That nurses be aware of their individual employer’s preparations for the projected swine and seasonal flu epidemic.
• That nurses consider swine flu and seasonal flu vaccinations.  Nurses working in health care settings who have the potential for exposure to infectious materials in a variety of settings are encouraged to participate in securing vaccines.
• That nurses follow the recommendation of the recent (September 2009) Institute of Medicine report and request that their employers provide N95 respirators for nurses who are in close contact with H1N1influenza or influenza-like illnesses.
• That nurses stay in touch with public health Web sites throughout the influenza season.
