Nurses renewing licensure need the knowledge/content of the requirements from the Board of Nursing for Nursing Jurisprudence and Ethics, and Older Adult/Geriatric Care. Nurses practicing need to have skills related to caring for adult/geriatric patients and on utilizing principles related to Nursing Jurisprudence and Ethics while caring for patients.

The purpose of this education activity is to enhance the knowledge and skills of the RN and APN in the areas of nursing jurisprudence and ethics and care of the geriatric/older adult patient.  Content include the Texas Nurse Practice Act, the Texas Board of Nursing Rules, including Board Rule 217.11  Standards of Nursing Practice, The Texas Board of Nursing Position Statements, and principles of nursing ethics and professional boundaries.  In addition, this program will address:  elder abuse, age related memory changes, and disease processes including chronic conditions, and end of life issues in an effort to promote a safe and ethical practice environment as evidenced by increased knowledge of regulatory requirements and excellent outcomes in the care of the geriatric/older adult population.
