TNA /ANA Speak Out for Nurses Indicted for Patient Advocacy
TNA and ANA spoke out about the outrageous filing of criminal charges in Winkler County against two nurses – two TNA members – who wrote the Texas Medical Board, concerned about a physician at their hospital and the health and safety of patients.
The nurses were fired from their jobs. They each also faced a third-degree felony charge of misuse of official information, which carries potential penalties of two- to-ten years’ imprisonment and a maximum fine of $10,000.
To support the nurses, as well as nursing’s Code of Ethics – nurses have a duty to advocate for the health and safety of their patients – TNA established the TNA Legal Defense Fund to support them in their endeavor, that actually resulted in a $20,000 donation to the two nurses to be used for fees and fines.
