TNA District 4 Annual Mock Trial
Presented For: Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, Student Nurses, Medical Students, Law Students and Health Related Professionals.
Program Objectives: At the completion of this offering, the Participant should be able to:
1) Identify how standards of care regulate nursing practice.
2) Identify criteria for establishing negligence in the practice of nursing.
3) State the necessity for complete and accurate charting.
4) Describe legal implications of professional nursing practice.
5) Define basic legal terminology relevant to nurse negligence cases.
THE CASE: Nurse A is an experienced labor and delivery nurse. Problems were encountered during the labor of Mother and delivery of Baby. As a consequence, Baby has profound disabilities. Was the negative outcome a result of negligence of Nurse A? Did Nurse A appropriately follow orders? Did Nurse A exceed her scope of practice? Did she timely notify the physician of a change of status? Should she have gone up the chain of command when the physician did not quickly arrive on the labor and delivery unit? These same questions can be applied to many types of events in which nurses find themselves, regardless of the practice site. Attend TNA, D-4’s Mock Trial and serve as a member of the “jury”.
