Healthcare professionals influence patient and population health, yet many report low levels of civic engagement despite the direct impact of public policy on care delivery, health equity, and workforce conditions. Evidence demonstrates that clinicians vote at lower rates than the general population, often due to uncertainty about their role, perceived legal or ethical constraints, and limited education on civic participation.

Grounded in the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics, Code of Ethics for Social Workers, and the Differentiated Essential Competencies (DECs), this activity positions civic engagement as a component of professional accountability. Participants will examine the relationship between voting and health outcomes and gain clarity on appropriate, ethical ways to engage in the voting process, strengthening confidence and role alignment in advocacy.

Learning Outcome: Learners will identify at least two ways that voting and public policy decisions impact health outcomes and describe one appropriate action they can take to engage in civic processes as part of their professional role.
