Call for Abstracts


 

The Texas Nurses Association is seeking abstract submissions for the 2026 Annual Conference: Strength in Unity, Excellence in Action

 

General Submission Guidelines: 

 
  • Completed work or projects may be submitted for a poster or podium presentation.  

  • Projects in progress may be submitted as poster presentations only.  

  • Abstracts highlight original research, quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice, or programmatic innovations. Formatting of the abstract should be consistent with the type of project being presented. 

  • Abstracts may have been presented elsewhere or published within the past 12 months but shall be updated to relate specifically to this conference. 

  • Presenters are asked to identify any potential relevant financial relationship related to the content to be offered (e.g., commercial interest, affiliation with a vendor, and/or receipt of royalties) and affirm that their abstract presentations will not be used to sell a particular product or service. The Texas Nurses Association exerts the right to rescind the acceptance of an abstract due to any relevant financial relationship discovered after the fact. 

  • Primary authors on all accepted abstracts must register for the conference and present the abstract. Co-authors may present in place of the primary author with the primary author’s consent. Any co-authors wishing to present with their primary author are required to register for the conference as well.

  • Presenters are responsible for their own expenses, including the conference registration fee, travel, accommodations, and other expenses.

 

Podium Presentation information 

Podium presentations will be 60-minute presentation with a 10-minute Q&A included, and provided with a laptop and LCD projector: 

Poster Presentation Information 

Poster presentations are presented on double-sided poster boards holding one (1) poster per board. All posters should be oriented in landscape format and must not exceed 48" W x 36" H. In addition, posters will be featured in the Virtual Poster Showcase on the virtual conference app and will provide a pre- recorded two—three-minute video presentation.

Word limit : 500 words 

Structure: Background/Introduction, Purpose/Aims, Methods/Approach, Results, and Conclusions/Implications for Practice. ***New for 2026 : The professional standards and competencies used to guide the work in progress or completed work, or projects must be included in the abstract submission.

1. Promote Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Unity Across the Profession

Foster connection and collaboration across diverse roles, generations, and settings.

 
  • Interprofessional collaboration

  • Mentoring and cross-generational dialogue

  • Nursing academia (student support, clinician-to-academic transitions)

  • Culture of respect, belonging, and support

  • Psychologically safe workplaces

  • Meaningful professional relationships

 

2. Advance Innovation and Technology Integration in Nursing Practice and Education

Showcase innovations that transform care delivery, teaching, and leadership.

 
  • AI integration in nursing

  • Telehealth and virtual care

  • Simulation and experiential learning

  • Data-driven decision-making for patient outcomes

  • Technology preparedness: downtime processes during planned or unplanned EHR outages

  • Innovations in practice, education, and leadership

 

3. Strengthen Leadership Capacity and Advocacy Skills at Every Level of Nursing

Equip nurses to lead change, influence policy, and drive equity in healthcare.

 
  • Legislative and policy advocacy

4. Support Workforce Sustainability, Professional Growth, and Career Transitions

Highlight nurse-led innovations that reduce disparities and strengthen patient care.

  • Emergency preparedness and trauma-informed care

 

These examples are suggestive, not exhaustive. We encourage creativity! Abstracts that align with the conference theme in new and innovative ways are welcomed.

 

Prior to submitting consider the following: 

 
  • Does the topic align with the conference theme: "Strength in Unity: Excellence in Action"?

  • Are the objectives measurable, organized, and concise?

  • Is the background well organized with sound theoretical or conceptual underpinnings?

  • Is the purpose/aim clear, well defined, and concise?

  • Are the methods/approaches well-articulated and appropriate for the study/project?

  • Are the results supported with organized and concise data, and do they report what they intended to look at?

  • Are the conclusions supported and scientifically sound?

  • Are the implications for practice described?

  • Are the professional competencies and standards identified and included? 

  • Are the references current and relevant (within the past 5 years unless seminal work or landmark studies)?

  • Are conflicts of interest disclosed?

 

 

Abstract selection will be made through blind peer review with interrater reliability built into the selection process by the TNA Nursing Professional Development committee comprised of members who graciously volunteer their time and expertise. Reviewers do not see names of submitters or school affiliations. To increase the probability of an abstract being selected, please read the scoring rubric the reviewers follow, provided at the top of the submission site.
