As a public health entity, the Houston Health Department must not only focus on disease containment but use the social determinants of health to identify and address the disparities caused or magnified by COVID-19. The data generated by the COVID-19 epidemiology
response team informs policies and practices that affect the daily lives of the communities they serve.
Presenter: Rahmatu Mansaray, MSN, RN
Mansaray is the chief nurse and nursing supervisor for a Nurse Family Partnership program housed out of Acres Homes Multiservice Center. Her clinical background includes mother-baby, women’s health and pediatrics. She is currently serving as the operations
manager for the Houston Health Department COVID-19 epidemiology response and support a staff of 300 people alongside other leadership. She received her Master of Science in Nursing with a public health focus from the University of Texas at Austin,
and also holds a Bachelor of Science in clinical laboratory science from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry from Sam Houston State University. Mansaray has worked as a medical laboratory
technologist, and as an RN in the clinic setting, hospital setting and community health setting.
