Texas Nurses Recognize 2019 Legislative Champions

IN LATE 2019 AND EARLY 2020, Texas Nurses Association (TNA) members in eight districts presented awards to their local legislators on behalf of the TNA Governmental Affairs Committee (GAC). The Legislator Champion Award recognizes Texas legislators who show their commitment to fighting for nurse issues and health care for all Texans.
Lorena D. Paul, DNP, MEd, GCNE, RN-BC, the TNA GAC District 8 Liaison, was part of the group that presented to Sen. José Menéndez. “This was a great opportunity for discussions with the Senator and his Chief-of-Staff,” she said.

Sen. Menéndez tweeted about the award the day it was presented, saying “As a proud son of a nurse, I am honored to receive the @TexasNursesAssn Legislator Champion Award. The need for our nurses continues to grow. Our nurses are critical to caring for our community.”

- Sen. José Rodríguez
- Sen. Kirk Watson
- Rep. Donna Howard
- Rep. Stephanie Klick
- Rep. Four Price
TNA GAC District and At-Large Liaisons are TNA’s grassroots legislative and political advocacy representatives who serve as a point of contact between the districts and TNA’s GAC. Liaisons are responsible for keeping their respective GAC representatives informed of local or district governmental or political activities.
