This year nurses deserve recognition more than ever, so the American Nurses Association expanded National Nurses Week to a month-long celebration in May for more opportunities to celebrate nurses. Texas Nurses Association has planned several activities for each week of the month to support and honor nurses.
TNA District 4 had a head start honoring local nurses. Over the past several weeks, they have been working to provide nurses in Dallas County with a little extra pick-me-up during their shift as they work to care for patients.
Operation Coffee Break – a collaboration between District 4 and local Dallas coffee shop White Rock Coffee – is a project designed to provide care packages of baked goods and coffee to nurses as way to say thank you for all that they have been doing over the last several months.
“Nursing has been deeply affected by the COVID-19 crisis, and this will have a significant impact on the profession for years to come," stated Amy McCarthy, TNA Secretary. “We wanted to find a way to say thank you to our colleagues and let them know that we are here for them and are working to support them. We hope that through this project, staff are able to take a moment for themselves in the midst of caring for their patients.”
Each package, in addition to coffee and snacks, contained a thank you card from D4, as well as resources from TNA to assist nurses during this time.
