As 2019 and the entire decade nears its end, we take a look back at all that TNA members have made possible over the past year.
Numbers we’re proud of:
- 6 Peer Review workshops hosted with 140 attendees
- 7 Nurse Talks that offered free CNE contact hours
- 14 online CNE courses launched, including Predictive Analytics and Health Care Staff Scheduling, Candida Auris: Deadly Superbug, and Leading Positive Change with Appreciative Inquiry
- 85 registered positions on bills in the 86th Legislative Session
- 438 bills tracked in the 86th Legislative Session
- 14,500+ members served
At TNA, we’ve always put members first. This year, we were able to connect nurses to the best ways to protect their practice through our partnership with NSO and our 2019 sponsor, the Prescription Monitoring Program. We also sought out more benefits for our members, including AAA discounts, prescription discounts, and a full suite of discounts powered by Premier.
With the help of experts, nurse volunteers, policy council committees, and partnerships with other organizations, we developed a maternal health handout and published the first edition of an Introduction to Texas Nursing Practice, with draft of several more toolkits nearing publication.
The Texas Peer Assistance Program for Nurses also had a stellar year, with newly redesigned materials, a new website, the soft launch of its new Twitter handle @tpapn_support and a test outreach campaign that brought in record numbers of self-referrals. Early in the year, TPAPN implemented its new matrix and continued the program redesign with new pre-enrollment agreements, motivational interviewing training for staff and peer support partners, and individualized participant contracts tailored to each nurse’s situation.
In 2020, we look forward celebrating the Year of the Nurse! We'll be developing a new strategic plan for the association as well as our strategy for the next legislative session. In June, we're bringing nurses together to learn about capacity building at the 2020 Policy Summit. Keep an eye out for more information coming soon on the 2020 Leaders and Legends of Texas Nursing awards and our second annual Virtual Career Fair. And stay tuned for opportunities to help us fight stigma with TPAPN!
